The units that constitute the Institute of Health Research in the Hospital Clínico San Carlos are:

Hospital Clínico San Carlos (HCSC): The Hospital is the core of the Institute. Care improvement, teaching and research are among the objectives of HCSC. The center has adapted to the demands of the society of Madrid, being a reference at a national and international level, due to its facilities and professionals. |

Universidad complutensein Madrid (UCM): Currently, the UCM has 21 faculties distributed on their campuses of Moncloa and Somosaguas, among which are the faculties of Biological Sciences, Pharmacy and Medicine. Additionally, a total of 40 university research institutes have been created within the UCM, covering all areas of knowledge of the University (including university biomedical research institutes). |

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM): Currently, the UPM has 18 Schools distributed on their campuses of Madrid and Montegancedo. Additionally, a total of 17 research and development centres have been created within the UPM. |

Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Hospital Clinico San Carlos: The Foundation aims to manage programs and clinical research projects and other related activities in the field of biomedicine, to contribute to the promotion and protection of the health of the population and to the progress and improvement of the health system of the Community of Madrid . |

Other entities of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), as those in the field of Primary Care of the influence area of HCSC and the units from the Hospital Carlos III incorporated to IdISSC. In recent years, these areas have a history of joint collaborations in the field of biomedical research, among their professionals and practitioners of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. |
